Our first overseas base was founded in Singapore in 1970 but we now have business operations ongoing at 11 bases in Asia. Remaining in compliance with local business practices and laws in the countries in which we do business, we have enhanced our business foundation by making full use of the synergy resulting from the network between our business bases and the distribution routes that are established for individual products. The experience we have accumulated over so many years means we can also provide customers advancing into overseas markets with consultation services on procurement and logistics.
We aim to create a recycling-oriented society in all the local regions we are involved in and eventually all over the world, with the focus on ensuring a stable supply of nonferrous metal materials and other products and the recovery of any recyclable materials.
We advanced into Singapore earlier than most other Japanese companies, thus enabling us to understand and comply with their different cultures, legal systems, environmental regulations, licensing systems and other complicated local business practices quite quickly, which has also enabled us to successfully operate our businesses there. We currently have 11 overseas bases in South East Asian countries, which are involved in the processing of recycled raw materials in accordance with all local laws and regulations and the retailing of our products. We can therefore provide customers intending to start overseas operations with support from the local procurement of materials through to the recovery of recycled raw materials. We can also be of benefit to any customers as a consultant with respect to overseas business operations.
We have our own overseas based warehouses. We control our inventory to ensure that we can deliver products to customers on a just-in-time basis in thereby responding to any changes in the export/import situation. With five bases in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand (two) and the Philippines, we have the type of system in place that is capable of delivering appropriate goods to South East Asian countries in the timeliest manner.
Full utilization of our locally created personal networks and special capabilities enable us to act as a total logistics coordinator (engaging in procurements, warehousing, transportation and carry-ins) in accordance to the respective needs of local customers. We can transport metal products and other materials, various facilities and small amounts of hazardous materials. Our performance is backed up by our wide range of experience and ensures both convenience and reduced costs for our customers.
We promote our business operations in other countries using the same raw material recycling system, which covers purchases, sales, and then recovery, as in Japan. We have suppliers and partners in the countries in which we do business, which supports our recycling-based business. This, we believe, is merely because of our overseas business activities having commenced earlier than most others.
Indonesia is said to be the world’s largest Islam State and has a population of more than 260 million. OHGITANI actively and repeatedly visited the country after the Asian currency crisis of 1997. In line with the increase in local procurements by major Japanese two- or four-wheel vehicle manufacturers, and through an Indonesian partner company, we commenced delivering nonferrous metal materials on a just-in-time basis in 2013, and then recovering the scrap generated after use of them. We are more than ready to answer any inquiries because we have been successfully doing business for more than 20 years in Indonesia, which has totally different legal systems and cultures to Japan.
